Big red lanterns are hung high, and boats shuttle back and forth on the river. During the Spring Festival this year, a series of activities are launched in Biancheng Chadong Scenic Area in Huayuan County of Xiangxi Prefecture, such as the folk street parade, the long dragon banquet, lantern riddle guessing and the lantern exhibition.
On the Bian’ai Square, red lanterns are arranged in rows, and colorful notes are hung in between. Everyone gathers together to guess lantern riddles, and from time to time there are bursts of applause, which is very lively.
“We have read ‘The Border Town’ written by Shen Congwen and we come here to look for Cuicui. We go out and walk in the evening. The stilted building and the Qingshui River are very beautiful, and the atmosphere of the New Year is impressive!” Yue Xiaoping, a tourist from Chongqing, said that this year he and his lover traveled here specially to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
The streets of the ancient town are full of light at night. The buildings and trees along the river are newly decorated, and the atmosphere of spring comes as you walk through the flow of people who are laughing. Tourists wander around the ancient town, enjoy the night view, watch fireworks, taste food and put lanterns in to the river to feel the joy of the festival.
“We came by car from Tianjin, and the humanistic atmosphere here is very strong.” Wang Zichen took a large family of 7 people to Biancheng Town and praised the local characteristic folk culture.
During the Spring Festival this year, Huayuan County planned a series of Spring Festival activities based on regional characteristics to further improve the quality of tourism services, boost the popularity of scenic spots and attract tourists from all over the world.
